Meet The Teachers

Rob Reese – Owner and Guitar/Banjo/Bass Guitar/Ukulele Instructor

I have been teaching guitar for over 13 years now. I teach with enthusiasm and humor. I want learning music to be an enjoyable experience for the students. I push my students to step out of their comfort zone, doing things they maybe didn’t believe they could do before. I stress the performance aspect of playing music just as much as I do with the practice aspect.

What makes my school unique is the strong community. We hold group classes for our students so we can give them an opportunity to play music with other musicians. They will always be a step ahead if they want to pursue playing live music, teaching music, sound engineering, plus many more music related occupations.

Instruments: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Banjo

Mary Cowley – Vocal Coach

I am the newest voice teacher here at the Rock School.  I have been singing in various capacities, including both choral and band settings, since I was 10 years old.  I hold a letter of recognition in music performance from Chesapeake College. Music has been my passion since I first heard the Beatles as a small child. I am constantly developing my talents as a vocalist and instrumentalist, as well as songwriting. I have played in a duo with Cass Duignan for the last couple of years.

When it comes to teaching, some of my biggest strengths are being able to break down the anatomy of sound to help the student understand how to successfully sing while preserving vocal health, and adjusting different concepts to any level of student. I also will give a music history lesson when appropriate.  My main goal as a musician and a teacher is to keep rocking and to share my gifts and knowledge with the next generation.

Some of my favorite bands are: The Beatles, KISS, The Monkees, Heart, Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield, Donna Summer, Olivia Newton-John, Stone Sour, Extreme, and INXS, just to name a few.

Micah Kreider
I have been playing guitar self taught for 20 years and had done choir and musicals the whole way through high school.
As a teacher I want to have my students grow and become the people they were always meant to be! Music can be a fantastic way to express yourself and work through complex feelings and emotions.
Outside of being a teacher I am song writer and performer while also flying hot air balloons!

Some of my favorite musicians are: The Beatles, Kendrick Lamar, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Drake.

Instruments/Skills: Guitar, Vocals, Bass Guitar, Mixing/Mastering, Songwriting

Cass Duignan – Piano and Voice Instructor

I adapt to each student’s learning style, because everyone learns differently. Some of my students play mainly by ear (not with sheet music, but by reading/following along by the chords), while others do much better with a more traditional approach. Both are wonderful ways to play and learn. I am not just a teacher, but also a songwriter and performer. I am always learning, always growing, and I am very passionate about getting other musicians to share their talents and their hearts through playing music.

With 28 years experience of singing a playing piano, I feel my teaching and influence helps push students along to continue developing their skills.  I love seeing people get excited about being able to play, sing (or play AND sing) a song they love.  Those types of magical moments are why I do what I do.

Greatest musical influences: Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Jenny Lewis, The Grateful Dead and The Beatles.

Instruments: Piano/Keyboard, Vocals

Brenden Reisch – Guitar Instructor

I have been taking guitar lessons for over 5 years and I love it! Taking guitar lessons has been a very fun experience for me and playing the guitar has allowed me to not only listen to music, but to play music. Some of my favorite bands are Creedence Clearwater Revival, Journey, Metallica, The Charlie Daniels band, and the list continues. These are just a few bands that I never get tired of listening to, and personally I don’t think that Journey has any bad songs so I love all of their stuff (the same goes for CCR). I was raised listening to older country music, so I like most of that too.

From taking guitar lessons, I actually got my first job as a guitar teacher. I have been a student teacher since the beginning of 2022. Teaching guitar has not only improved my skills, but you also make friends with the students. I look forward to teaching every week. I used to be pretty shy and was nervous when I first started teaching, but over time I got better at it. This is why I decided to PICK guitar…and I continue to learn, having lots of fun doing it!

Instruments: Guitar, Bass

Alex Miller – Guitar Instructor

I have been playing guitar for five years now and for most of that time I have been learning at Rob’s Rock School. Playing guitar has made it so that I can understand music in a way that I couldn’t before. Through teaching and playing guitar I have had many fun and memorable moments. It has introduced me to many different genres of music and many different songs.

Overall, guitar has been an instrumental part of my life.

Favorite songs: “Fat Lip” by Sum 41, “J.A.R.” By Green Day, and “Sonny” by New Found Glory.

Instruments: Guitar

Madi Purdue – Guitar and Ukulele Instructor

I have been playing guitar for almost 4 years now. I started learning to play the guitar on my own before I started lessons at the Rock School. I have grown so much of an apreaciation for music through playing guitar. Now that I have begun teaching, I love seeing my students gain the same love for their instrument as I have. Taking guitar lessons has truly changed my life in a way I never thought possible.

I have found a new love and respect for all music and musicians. I have met lifelong friends at the Rock School and made so many of memories.

When it comes to teaching, some of my biggest strengths are being able to break down the music in a way that a student can learn and see, and adjusting different concepts to any level of student.  My main goals as a musician and a teacher are to create music, and to help others do the same.
